Authentic 18th Century Mt. Vernon Witness Tree Rolling Pin (A240)
A Piece of Mt. Vernon
This handmade 18th Century-style rolling pin comes from a 235 year old Curly Maple planted when George Washington was 48.
A unique historical item, this rolling pin was hand shaped from maple wood made available when this tree was cleared at Mt. Vernon because of its age.
The Curly Maple was a “witness” tree. Frequently used by surveyors to mark the property. Furniture from similar trees removed from George Washington’s plantation have sold for thousands of dollars.
A maple rolling pin, bulging in the center, grooved at the ends, was a common tool in the 18th Century kitchen. This classic tool made of unfinished wood can be polished with mineral oil.
